Post #0260 - Potty train & Wean off. Done!

Dear Earthlings, 

Youngster #2 is now off-diaper! Definitely it is a BIG thing and yeay for me!

Not only that, we also have weaned him off and he is on sippie cup / sports bottle. No more milk bottle. wuhuu!!

We started on Chinese New Year holiday, about 3 weeks ago.

I woke up one morning and decided to potty train him, since it was a long break. Getting tired of buying diapers already, and it's not cheap! We had to spare RM150-RM200 per month for diaper. Isn't it a waste?

First thing first. 

Roll & keep the carpets in safe place, because for the first 4 days, shee-shee and poo-poo every where, though we have reminded him every second. 

I think that was the stress part. 

Previously we took him to the toilet every 30 minutes. But seeing that he always peed in the pants, the toilet trip was changed to every 15-20 minutes. Regardless he wants to pee or not. 

Since it was a new experience for him, we let him pee on the toilet floor. After two-three days when we trust that he is comfortable peeing, we start to teach him to sit on toilet seat. 

Pardon me, but I don't believe in potty training kid using this.

I have to admit that it was a bit difficult for him to adjust with the new situation, but you.. yourself have to support and continuously train (and force!) him.  I think he started to poo using toilet seat after almost a week of training.

Night time, get him to pee before sleep. When he is already asleep, I put on the diaper. But at the very next morning, as soon as he wakes up, I immediately take him to the toilet. 

Yes, for the first few nights you will get a wet diaper, but eventually the kid will stop to pee.

After monitoring him for 3 continuous night of wet-free diaper, I stop the night diaper and bought changing mat, to place under the bedsheet. (Just in case)

Bought for RM17 (or was it RM27) in Tesco (Pic.googled)

Alhamdulillah, no wet bed has been found todate. 

When travel or jalan-jalan, we still take him for toilet trip. A bit hassle, but the show must goes on. During our last visit to PD, Youngster #2 was on potty train. So we put on the diaper for the road trip.  Tak nak la dapat extra kerja dalam kereta pulak kan, kena cuci and all. But surprisingly, dia did not wet the diaper. Good news, weeehooo!! Good news laa kan sebab dapat control for 3 hours. Check in je, terus bawak masuk toilet.

Nowadays dah confident sikit tak pakai diaper dalam kereta. So far alhamdulillah. Ask him to go to the toilet first before we leave the house for school. Upon reaching school, another toilet trip. We also asked the teachers to coorporate in training him. 

At first, some teachers support our effort, others were sceptical. Blaming us on starting potty train too early on Youngster #2. To us, when the kid knows the different between pee and poo and also already know how to talk, we should train them. If we were want to wait until the kid is ready.. hmm.. can you tell me how long we have to wait for that?

So,

In weaning off.. seriously, to buy bottle nipple is not cheap, and I had to change it every 2-3 months because Youngster #2 loves to bite. So, I bought a straw bottle, the one that doesn't leak and have no-straw, only the spout. (pic below)

It only lasted him for one night. He gets tired of biting the spout (then only the milk flow). 

So I use this one instead.  (Bought 2 years ago. But not in use, because Youngster #1 not like it)

Same goes to Youngster #2. 

So we pass.

Then we tried this one. Both bottles are from Tommee Tippee. Belongs to Youngster #1 which I bought sometime 4 years ago. I believe they do not produce this type anymore.

The spout can be folded. 

So far he is loving it :)  (Buang duit je beli Nuby!)

It's not that I am depriving the Youngsters from milk. They still drink milk, but  just in a cup instead of milk bottle.

At the age of 30 months, no more diaper and milk bottle. 

I am one happy mom.

Post #0255 - Islamic Education in Children. Is it crucial?

Dear Earthlings, 

I am not sure whether it's a trend to send kids to Islamic School nowadays.

Anyhow, I have been sending the Youngsters to this one Islamic School in KL for almost 3 years. That time my baby girl was about 2.5 years old and the other, 2 months old. I think we were quite lucky because it didn't take us long under the waiting list.

Being a possessive mother (ehemm, I'm not the only one), I noticed there were hiccups here and there. But as soon as  I  dealt with the trust issues (or was it pasrah?), I realised that they are doing the best that they can. This is the place where they teach my children how to be independent, potty trained (Youngster #2 currently under potty train), pray  and also take care of them. 

Previously I was so stressed up with the demam/batuk/hfmd/pneumonia secara berjemaah  at the School, because at the end of the day we definitely spending at least 5 days 4 nights at the Hospital (circa 2011. It was one tough year for us). For instance, Youngster #2 was diagnosed with pneumonia twice in 2011. Last year with hfmd. But alhamdulillah, his health now is improving.

Since Youngster #1 is good in Hafazan, her previous class teacher suggested for Q.uranic  De.velopment Program which is a special class concentrating more on Hafazan, Quran reading. 
 

Yes, I am proud that she is in that class. 

When you see the kids reciting Quran, masya Allah. My jaw dropped. Literally. 

Surah-surah panjang, it's like kacang goreng je. Piece of pie, orang putih kata.  

However, I am a bit worried about her English/BM reading. I believe Math is not a problem. Please don't get me wrong. I have nothing against reciting and everything. Just that I'm afraid that she couldn't cope with other subjects when she is in standard 1.

That's why I try my very best to do revision with her every weekend. Sometimes, tak buat sebab lupa!  

Bought the revision books from the School bookshop, where other classes of her batch also use it.  Other subjects are not a worry to me, except for reading! Simply because I do not know how to teach a kid to read! 

Haih. Macam mana nak buat ni.

Back to school gifts from GadgetGeek office. Simple token of appreciation yang buat orang happy masih belum digunapakai.

GadgetGeek says that I should not be worried as Quran is the light of heart. Everything will fall into places when you have Quran to guide you. 

Nak harapkan diri sendiri untuk ajar anak baca Quran pon... ehemmm.. paham-paham je lah.

Dear Earthlings, 

We took both youngsters (age 4 and 2) for scalling a couple of weeks ago. Thought they have gone screaming, but actually none cried, which a relief for GadgetGeek because I was at the office at that particular day. 

In case you don't know. 

This is scalling - to remove plaque.

Since Youngster #2 is still young to brush his teeth correctly, the dentist advised us to get a battery operated toothbrush so it helps the kid to brush in circular motion.

Bought these for RM20+- each in Tesco. 

So far they lovin' it!

Post #0142 - Yellow and Wheels

Dear Earthlings, 

We send both of our kids to the same school, but they are in different class. Youngster #1 in PlaySchool and Youngster #2 in Nursery. So far we are satisfied with the School programme though they are always take time off like Teacher Training Day, Teacher Meeting, School Dinner etc.

I always communicate with the teachers. The most would be Youngster #2 teacher. 

Morning chat would be with Youngster #2's teacher during drop off and later in the afternoon Youngster #1 teacher when pick up.

Anyways, for Nursery.. their ratio is ONE TEACHER = THREE CHILDREN (newborn - 1.5 years old), which I totally happy with it. Previously Youngster #2 was under Teacher L, until last August she went for maternity leave and a new teacher replacing her - Teacher N, a fresh grad from UIA majoring in child physchology.

Seeing that Youngster #2 is close and very de manja with Teacher N, she continues to take care of him instead returning him to Teacher L. The best part is, she always update, text me and even record on a video of Youngster #2 milestone. (Maybe I should get something for her). hehe

Speaking of milestone, 

Right now Youngster #2 is developing interest over music. When the music is on, he will be the first person shaking his head/body and try to sing along. Told her that I'd like to enrol Youngster #2 for drum class. Apparent, the Teacher is also a drummer. How cool is that??

This morning, she told me that Youngster #2 likes to spin wheel and yellow color. 

Upon hearing this, I was ermm.. confused. 

So I googled on the connection kids loves spinning wheel and yellow. The keyword was something like - wheel.yellow. As I googled, I stumbled on the signs of autism. (knock on wood) Alhamdulillah, he does not have the signs, but I'm just curious why he loves car/wheel and yellow color (of all the colors lah).

I told my boss about my concern. According to her, I'm too pshycho and being freak out for nothing. 

Damn, must be because of my medication.

On the other side, for the past few weeks, I've been following Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential and  Institut Nury. 

They are the organisations that support the development of family and kids.

No words can describe how I feel, because I know I don't have much courage to face it unlike other parents. It teared me when I read the success stories. How Almighty laid out His test in different ways. The parents have my utmost respect in raising the special kids.

Dear Earthlings, 

We finally took Youngster #2 to the pool last weekend.. at the age of 15 months! (Unlike Youngster #1, I started to dunk her since she was 3 months old) 

It's not because we were tied up with work, but it's due to in-out hospitals and never-ending flu.

Youngster #2 has been depending on drugs for months. Bottle after bottle. Believe it or not, if it's not every week/fortnight.. we go to the hospital every month for check ups. I can memorise all the drugs that were prescribed to us - Flixonase, promethazine, iliadin, butylin, rhinathiol, singulair etc.. you name it. I even can guess what are the meds that the doctor is going to prescribe to us.

I don't really control the Youngsters diet. But only for Youngster #2, I keep biscuits away from him. This is because any kind of biscuit can trigger cough. 

His nose will only dry for a day or two. Then the flu return, followed by cough, and phlegm. Don't let me start on puff. From blue puff, grey puff to red puff.. we've tried it all. For all we know, he's infected with pneumonia. Not once, but twice within 6 months.

Todate, we've seen 5 Pediatricians. Some of them are good, but the treatment given does not suit him until we met the final one. 

This year alone, Youngster #2 has been admitted 6 times. Started in February and the last one about two weeks ago. Twice for pneumonia, (and four more I couldn't recall). Tired of this, I have been monitoring him closely since he last admission. Seeing that we send both of them to School, we have no choice but to boost their immunisation.

 

Basically this is his routine -

Morning : 

1) Puff (Orange)

The Paed advised us to puff him twice a day.

2) Nose Spray (Sterimar) (6 hourly - if there's flu)

The sea-water spray is to clean the nose.

Night : 

1) Puff (Orange)

2) Nose Spray

3) Zyrtec (if he has flu)

4) Honey 

I give him about 2.5ml and the sister 3ml. People said that it's not good to give honey to a child. 3 out of 5 Paed that we met also said the same thing. To me, as long as they don't show any allergy or something, then the honey should be ok. Do note that honey must be taken by using plastic spoon/syringe. Can't use any kind of steel. Else, it won't work.

The one in the picture is the cheap ones. I think the price is not more than RM30. If you have extra budget, you can go for - RM126 per jar.

5) Chlorophyll 

This product (UniCity) was recommended by my Dad. Had no choice but to take it (because my dad twisted my arm) due to some testimonial saying that it works for sensitive nose. Mixed it with milk - One teaspoon = 8oz milk. RM75 per jar.

Plus, we also subscribed to air purifier. (RM100 & RM80 (inclusive service charge) per month for two years contract). I can't remember how many times they come to service. Was it every month? or every 3 months? or every six months?? Gotta to check the contract.

At first we were very skeptical. Mainly because we can't see the dust etc yet this product claim that it can prevent all the sickness. Bla.. bla.. bla..

Cut story short, few weeks ago we went to HomeDec and came across Coway booth. I'm not sure whether you have heard about this product before, but to us.. that was our first time hearing the brand. 

Holding on "we have nothing to lose", we select two (out of 4 (or 5) air purifier.

In our living room, we place - Lombok

While in bedroom - Dolomities

So far.. (3 weeks in use).. I'd say that the house is not stuffy anymore (We closed the sliding door and windows because there is a construction just in front of our unit, and it's very dusty!)

But in my personal view, I prefer Dolomities over Lombok. At least for Lombok I can see that the color changes (from red (dusty/odor) to red + blue and blue (clean & clear). Compared to Lombok, I feel that it doesn't do much different. 

As for impact on our kids.. 

I'm not sure whether it's because of the air purifier or the honey or the Chlorophyll. What ever it is, I'm glad that they are no longer coughing.

Dear Earthlings, 

All these while our kids' check ups are at a hospital in Damansara. After almost a month check out - Youngster #2's health is still in recovering stage, yet to fully recovered. 

Tired of this, I finally decided to change Paed (as pursuaded by GadgetGeek). I'm not saying that the Paeds in the previous hospital are not good or whatsoever, but to me.. it depends on the kid actually, whether suitable or not with the doctor. So don't take this wrong.

So yesterday I called up the Insurance Company to issue GL and double checked with the GL Counter whether they have received it or not. Lucky that I checked because they faxed it elsewhere.

Anyways, this morning.. four of us went to a hospital in Jalan Pahang. Arrived at 9am, managed to secure No. 10. By 11am, we finally get to see the Paed (as he had a emergency case to attend). 

He did a background check and conclude that both Youngsters have sensitive nose. So what I can do is to clear all the soft toys, dusts and make sure the house is clean (which stressed us out because we have an on-going construction across our unit)

On Youngster #2, we went for x-ray and glad that both of his lungs are clear. So the Paed change the puff (Orange) twice a day, (currently he's on red and blue puff every 4 hours) 2 weeks on Singulair and Zyrtec twice a day.

Post #0112 - Admitted again : Day 9

Dear Earthlings,

Finally, after spending almost 9 days in the hospital, we have the green light to go home. Syukur that the hospitalisation bill is covered, and we only had to pay about RM300++ for H1N1 test and lodger. 

Met the Operation Manager of the hospital and I joked that we contributed so much this year. Youngster #2 has been check in and out of hospital 4 times this year (February, March, April, and September). Let alone doctors appointments. I bet the hospital staffs gonna get big bonus next year. hahaa!

Alhamdulillah syukur. 

The doctor mentioned that Youngster #2 can be discharged by tomorrow.

But the thing is, Youngster #1 has started to develop fever last night.

Dear Earthlings,

Youngster #2 has still not be discharged yet. The IV has been taken out on Saturday morning because the tube was already bended and the Paed couldn't find Youngster #2 vein on his other hand. 

So the Paed decided to jab him with antibiotic. As a result, 3 nurses and (me) had to hold him really-really tight because he struggles a lot. Not only that, it also applies to medication intake and nebuliser. Even if the nurses did the swaddling, he can still get away / get himself out. 

Nebuliser has been reduced to every 6 hours from 4 since yesterday as well as cough syrup.   

Thank you for all the warm wishes, his condition is now improving. No more fever, except that he will throw up whenever he cough hard which happens at least twice a day. 

Anyways, Youngster #2 is now known as "awan nano" by the Paed Nurses due to his hair :)

Dear Earthlings,

An H1N1 test has been done yesterday. It is a 24 hours test, hence the result will be out this evening. 

I'm off for two days from the office; missed my department - open house as well as the Youngsters School Open House. My mom is handling Youngster #1 and I can't rely on GadgetGeek as he's too tight with his schedule. 

Right now he is busy with his latest assignment and will fly out to JB on this coming Sunday til Tuesday and to Rotterdam later that day until the following week. 

Yes, I wished he was here with me but can't asked for more. I believe, that's the least I can do. Concentrate on Youngster #2 and don't bug him. 

Dr. predicts that we will be spending at least another 7 days at the hospital due to Youngster #2 condition. Both of his lungs are infected. Front and back. I'd say it's a severe one. On day one, the Dr. couldn't hear a thing when she checked on the lungs. Second day, there was a sound, but too many noise. The noise is something like you squashing a plastic bag. Something like that lah.

His temperature has been up and down, but the fever is still there plus cough and flu. He's on drip and today mark his second bag. Diarrhea because there is no appetite. He only drank a total of 4 oz yesterday. At times turn blue because of the temperature shooting up.

I read an article saying that 5-7% of pneumonia cases can lead to death, which doesn't help at all. 

It makes me really-really-really worried.

Post #0108 - Admitted again

Dear Earthlings, 

Youngster #2 is now admitted. Over the weekend, he had severe cough and on Monday (when i picked him up from the School he started to have fever) There was no fever when i took him to see the Paed on that earlier morning. Sigh. I believe he got infected when i sent him to School later.

I didnt sleep as i was too busy making sure Youngster #2 temperature goes down. By 3am, his temperature subside.

So the next morning (tuesday) i sent him to school with few instructions and told the caretaker to give me a call if Youngster #2 condition get worsen.

I was indeed nervous when received a call from the School. I quickly make my way to the School and headed to the hospital. According to the teacher, he looks lethargic, tired, clingy, cried a lot and at one point he turned blue.

Sensed something is wrong, i rushed to the a&e and i was pretty confident that this time it must be pneumonia due to medical history. And I was right. Youngster #2 had pneumonia in last february - as soon as we came back from balikpapan.

The Medical Officer did some diagnosis - blood test etc, and nebuliser was given to him. Our Paed is away, hence his substitute is replacing him.

I hate to say this.. But this time, i'm a bit more nervous and concern compared to his last admission. I couldnt eat and sleep.

Dear Earthlings, 

We are now in the hospital. Checked in yesterday morning around 9am. Actually, we were a bit late because we need to admit half an hour earlier. Yeah, this is what happened if we do appointment. We always late! That is why we prefer/always do walk-in.

Anyways, since all the single rooms were occupied, hence we settled with two bedded. Two tags were worn - the white one is for admission and green is for operation tag.

Around 9:45am, a nurse came in, requested for dress changing. We were brought to the day ward and were asked few background questions. By 10:09am, an Anesthetist took Youngster #2 inside the operation theater. We were advised to go for breakfast in the mean time and be at the waiting area an hour later.  

Apart from the main purpose of the surgery, the Paed Surgeon suggested to do circumcision as well since the operation is under general anesthetic (GA). I'd say 2 in 1. hehe

An hour later, Youngster #2 was crying by the time we arrived. Must be hungry I guess, as he was fasting since 6am. 

However, we can't give any drink yet and has to wait for at least quarter an hour. First have to give him a sips of plain water. If no vomiting, then can give milk. Alhamdulillah, he settled with 8 oz of milk before he went to sleep.

Anyways, we then pushed the nurse to change the room mainly because we cannot stand the noisiness level of next bedder. The maid was looking after the boy (the patient), and the maid switched on the Indo series super loud which is very inconsiderate. What tick me off was when the maid said rude remarks such as "bodoh" when she got all emo with the series. And I have a three year old kid with me. Wtf!

By 2:30pm, we managed to get ourselves a single room.

Once settled, four of us immediately took a nap. We were mentally exhausted. Definitely. hehe

Oh, the Surgeon came to see us about an hour after the surgery. He explained that Youngster #2 was in good behaviour. Didn't cry when the nurses attended him in the OT. During the operation, our baby was given gas and once they stop gassing, Youngster #2 immediately awake. The reason is that, the Surgeon wants the baby to be alerted. 

It shouldn't be a problem when it comes to post operation. Roughly, the wound will take about a week to heal. Til then, we just need to apply cream and give pain killer. 

Day 2, with a bit of porridge stuck on his nose

According to the Surgeon, this operation should be done on the day Youngster No. 2 was born. However, (I delivered in a hospital in Ampang) we believe the Paed in charge was overlooked and didn't check thoroughly. What upset us, this Paed didn't care to explain to us on Youngster No. 2 condition until we went to see him personally a week after (this was on another matter). I still remember, he took less than 5 minutes to check and was lack in explanation. Since then, we didn't bother to visit him again.

Luckily when we switched to the new Paed two weeks ago, he realised this (new finding) and quickly advised us to get in touch with Dr. R - the Paed Surgeon. 12 days later, here we are.

Dear Earthlings, 

We went to see the Paed Surgeon last week and decided that the operation of Youngster #2 will take place this Saturday morning (Though initially we wanted it to be on April 1st). 

So the last meal will be at 6am, and the operation will start 4 hours later.

The Paed Surgeon suggested to have the operation after Youngster #2 first birthday. But after thoughtful consideration, we decided to have it earlier. The sooner the better. Insha Allah.

Applied for GL, however it was not approved. Hence, out of our pocket money it is. 

Whatever it takes for our little baby. As parents, we always devote our lives to our kids isn't it?

Dear Earthlings, 

I just got back from the inquiry with the Paed Surgeon clinic. So far it looks promising. But we haven't really discuss on the issue yet. Insya Allah, the detail discussion will be done in next 2 weeks because this coming Saturday we already engaged with the new Paed as to follow up on the last appointment. 

Tentatively, we are planning for early April for Youngster #2 surgery. 

I don't think I'm suppose to write about it here, but I just need to let it out.  

Just so you know, this is one of the moments that I feel helpless and nothing I can do about it. 

This is where I leave the rest to the Almighty. 

Afterall, He knows best.

Dear Earthlings, 

Eventhough it has been more than 4 weeks Youngster #2 being discharged of pneumonia, his cough still didn't subside. Hence, I could say that we've been visiting hospital almost every week. Lucky that Gadget Geek's company covers the hospital bill. Alhamdulillah. Otherwise, I'm sure we'd to fork more than RM10k as I'm keeping track how much the (total todate) hospital bill is (not including my hospital bill).

This shows how important it is to have the medical benefit, and I'm so grateful that GadgetGeek has moved to this green side. Otherwise, it's definitely going to throw a hefty cost on us. 

We went to the same hospital, but decided to change the Paed. The one we regularly see is good, but we want second opinion and a better one, as the new Paed we seeing is an expert in child respiratory. 

So yesterday, I waited outside his clinic (ard 8:30am) to queue and managed to get the third slot. So, time to see the Paed is roughly 11am. 

The Paed did some background check and lecturing on us. 

As a result, we have to change some of our lifestyle because Youngster #2 have sensitive nose. 

First to get rid the (fragrant) humidifier and anything that has chemical smell (incl. electronic repellent etc), AND no more on the shelves meal eg: cereal based. 

He told that the upstream of being sick is because two things - the food that we eat and the lifestyle. If we can control these two, insya Allah  we can hardly be sick. 

Not only that, he suggested on making home made baby food. Well, it is not that I don't want to cook for my baby. It is just that I don't have time to cook for Youngster #2's dinner. 

At the Youngster's school, they were given with freshly cooked meal - 3 times a day (breakfast, lunch and tea time). Except Youngster #2 get twice a day. Namely breakfast and lunch. The School normally give them rice with vege and some protein.

On weekdays, I reach home about 7++pm (provided I punctually leave from office). By then I have to sort out Youngster #1 and GadgetGeek's dinner, chores etc (I'm lucky enough to tapau dinner from my moms). To cook Youngster #2's food will take me another 30 minutes, and by then Youngster #2 will be crying for food. 

So the best way is to feed him with ready food. I know, I'm just making excuses.

I promised to myself, starting from today, I will give him no other than home cook meal. 

Plus, we are lucky that we don't have any pets and GadgetGeek is a non-smoker. Otherwise, I'm sure we'll be sweating in the Paed's room. Furthermore, he also reminded us not to have any fast food, especially for Youngster #1. And lots more advises. Apparently, we were in his room close to an hour. 

So you can imagine how torture we were listening to his lectures. 

Hahaha..!

The advise he gave us suit him with the Prof. Dato' Dr. title. No wonder people willing to queue to see him. We admit that he knows what he is talking and doing. (Like, duhh!)

Unlike our previous Paed, this new Paed decided to treat the runny nose instead of cough. Mainly because the runny nose is the cause to everything. From cough to pneumonia. We have to monitor and prevent it from happening again as Youngster #2 has the tendency for asthma.

Ditch the puff (that has to be given every 4-6 hours) and other sort of drugs that the previous Paed prescribed.  Stick to the new one (He gave us 3 syrups and 1 nose spray) and to see him again in next 7 days. I hope this is the end for the never-ending cough and runny nose.

On the other note, do you believe that everything happen for a reason?

Since I gave birth to Youngster #2 (we believe that he is one special boy), I lay my trust more than everything else in this world when it comes to the power of Almighty. Previously I do believe and hold the phrase but, not really into it. 

We, as a human wants the best for us and a mother always wants the best for her kid(s). But what if Allah decides to test us?

This where we need to buckle up and live with it. 

Like why the Almighty opened the door for GadgetGeek to shift to another field leading to having the benefit of unlimited medical claim? We see the picture as Youngster #2 needs it a lot more than we do. Or maybe Almighty wants to give us extra good points for taking care sick child, since we are not-that-good Muslim? We just can never know the real reason, except to link the events.

 

First it was hard for me to accept it, after one to another incident. But again, there is a reason why the Almighty got me married to GadgetGeek as my fate. (Though previously, he's the type who I wanted to avoid the most) We stand side by side and always support each other. I couldn't imagine my position if I were married to someone else.He is my pillar of strength.

With every happening around me, I'm still syukur upon Him.

As I quote,
"Ujian itu rahsia Allah. Dengan ujian itu akan membuka mata kita untuk lebih tabah dan tidak berputus asa. Allah tidak akan bagi ujian jika hambanya tidak berkemampuan untuk menanggung ujian tersebut".

Post #0020 - Lined and Lining Up

Dear Earthlings, 

I realised I've been slacking off in updating this story of mine. So many things lined and still lining up for me to run.

February, the month of love is definitely keeps me busy. We spent our first week in BalikPapan, and second (plus third week) in a specialist hospital nursing Youngster #2. I believe we have no further plan on the final week of the month as GadgetGeek will be in Dubai for a business trip (which I supposed to tag along but was last minute cancelled, and my allocation for flight ticket was being replaced with a 50" flat screen. Boo hoo!). Evil spouse.

While I still have the time to blog, let me sort out the events happened/ing. 

• The BalikPapan Trip    

This is the place where SIL II and her family reside, otherwise we don't think that we will land our feet here. Flew on the second day of February and it took 2.5 hours to reach Sepinggan International Airport from LCCT, Kuala Lumpur.

Filled with joy and laughter, we believe this will not be our first and the last trip here. I also managed to enroll the informal and baking crash course. Simple baking won't do any harm, isn't it?

• The health of Youngster #2

Upon our return from BalikPapan, we immediately rushed to the A&E because me and the Youngsters were not feeling well. As a result, I got two days mc, courtesy the MO. The Youngsters' fever were gone by the next day. So I sent them to the school (as usual) on the day after. 

Back from School, Youngster #2's temperature shot high up but subside later in the evening. It's been continuously like that since.. I'd say last January? I thought it's normal to get sick when the kids being send to the nursery. I should have be more alert :( GadgetGeek sensed something is wrong and we took him to the hospital a day after - which is on Thursday. The Paed mentioned, if the fever is still there on Saturday, get ready for admission. 

Right after work on Saturday afternoon we went to see the Paed again, along with us is the hospital bag. We were directly sent to the A&E Department for nebulizer (FYI, we've been checking in and out the hospital from Thursday to Friday (2 days) for nebulizing). 

We were quite lucky because able to get a single room there and then, because at the time we request for the room, the Paed Ward was (almost) full house. Then, Youngster #2 were taken to the Treatment Room whereby a swab, blood sample were taken and a drip was given. Surprisingly, he didn't cry at all! Not even a sound. What he did was just smile and giggled with the nurses. (Very different from his big sister. Full with dramas!)

The Paed started the treatment by giving the antibiotics and the fever medicine to keep the temperature down, plus nebulizer for every 4 hours. Two days later, the fever was all gone.

We got the blood test result on the second day which H1N1 swab test and dengue test were found -ve. It definitely gave a huge relief for both of us. On the third day, Paed did the chest x-ray and found that he's suffering from Pneumonia which in a layman term, lungs infection. According to Paed, this is the root problem that caused Youngster #2 been sick on and off.

I was devastated when my mom break the news. (I was at work and my mom was babysitting Youngster #2). Managed to stand on my feet again with the support messages that I've been receiving from friends and GadgetGeek was pretty calm upon hearing it. So now, the treatments are - Nebulizer for every 4 hours and antibiotics for the next 7 days. So far he is responding to the treatments. Alhamdulillah.

It will take 3-4 weeks to fully recover from Pnemonia. As of now, we had no choice but to treat the room that we occupying as homey as possible because this is where we spend our time (for the estimated total of 10 days). Stocked up the fridge, brought many-many extra clothes (though our home is just a stone away) a bolster for Youngster #2 and toys for Youngster #1. 

So in our room, you will see there are one baby cot and two single beds. One for GadgetGeek (and Youngster #1) and one for me, attached next to the cot and many-many toys laying around.  I think our room is the messiest of them all. Todate, we are still in the hospital and have another (at least) 6 days to go! (Praying hard for Youngster #2's health)
